Joan Miriam Adams works within the framework of a very personal mythology, reinterpreting classic mythic images. These images have a dream-like quality and are used to express the artists's reaction to the human condition. These images are at once highly personal and universal.
Quality of idea, quality of form and quality of craftsmanship are essential components in expressing each idea. Working with a wide variety of materials including stone, wood, clay, metal or paint, the artist gives a concrete form to her ideas. The way the object is seen in space or the way it creates positive and negative space generates the movement and the emotional impact.
"The artist's virtuosity is manifest in the sensuous anthropomorphic forms which she creates from an amazingly wide range of materials and in sizes ranging from large commissions to pieces which fit in the palm of your hand." -- Jaqueline M Gallery, 1990
