Over the past thirty years, my thrown work has evolved to an organic quality, influenced by the forms of seedpods and buds. I enjoy the energy of new growth, the unfolding, and the promise of new life.
In the past ten years, I have also pursued a new direction in large-scale public art projects. In July of 1999, I completed “Rising Tide”, a 350 sq. ft. relief ceramic tile mural at Cosmo Plaza in Richmond. “Octopus’s Garden”, a 33 ft. long relief tile bench, was completed in April of 2002.
I have also enjoyed the opportunity in the last few years to work with community groups in the fabrication of public art for city spaces. “Convergence” a 300 sq. ft. mosaic tile pathway was installed in June of 2004 in the Whalley area. Soon afterwards, “Friendship Gate” was fabricated in North Vancouver for the Lower Lonsdale Community Garden. The “Newton Mosaic Project”, sponsored by the City of Surrey was completed in June of 2006. This project involved community from the four facilities of the Newton Wave Pool, Arena, Seniors Centre and Youth Centre and produced approximately 200 square feet of glass and ceramic tile mosaics for the building exteriors.
My studio practice as well as all the public and community public art works can be viewed at www.connieglover.com. |
